Convert TSV to JSON
When you copy a range from Excel, Google Sheets or LibreOffice, the cells arrive separated by tabs. Set the delimiter to Tab and the converter turns the pasted block into a JSON array without any reformatting.
Worked example
name city visits vip Smith, Jane São Paulo 1200 true Kim Seoul; Busan 85 false
[
{
"name": "Smith, Jane",
"city": "São Paulo",
"visits": 1200,
"vip": true
},
{
"name": "Kim",
"city": "Seoul; Busan",
"visits": 85,
"vip": false
}
]Because columns are split only at tabs, "Smith, Jane" and "Seoul; Busan" stay intact without quotes. The visits column becomes numbers and the vip column becomes booleans, exactly as with comma-separated input.
How the converter handles it
- Choose Tab in the Delimiter menu. With the default Comma setting, tab-separated lines would be split at commas instead.
- Commas, semicolons and pipes inside a cell need no quotes. A value that contains a tab or a quote mark must be wrapped in double quotes, with inner quotes doubled.
- Cells that contain line breaks cannot be converted, because every line is read as a separate record. Remove the line breaks first.
- Headers, trimming and data types follow the same rules as CSV: numbers, true/false and empty cells become JSON numbers, booleans and null.
- To go back, use the JSON to CSV tab with Tab selected and paste the result straight into a spreadsheet.
